Abstract

This article focuses on the improvement of productivity, and the associated problems of sharing the consequent gains and managing the consequent transitions for people and organizations in Great Britain. There is an efforts in setting up wage-payment systems and employment arrangements that would facilitate improvements in productivity. And unions have been increasingly preoccupied with the processes of technological change, the alteration of working rules and the institution of other changes in customary employment practices. Major technological changes are usually industry-wide, making it dangerous for any individual firm to build into its structure of costs a permanent and major sharing of the gains with its labor force.
