Abstract
- The article reports on the induction of African American golfer Charlie Sifford into the Watts Hall of Fame by the Watts Chamber of Commerce in California following his victory in the Los Angeles Open Golf Tournament. Sifford's defeat of Harold Henning to win the title and the top prize of 20,000 U.S. dollars was significant as it was only in 1961 when the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) opened its tournaments to African Americans. The struggles of Sifford in golf over the years are described.
