Abstract

The article focuses on the economic condition of Uruguay. It mentions that Uruguayans are the best paid and best educated among other nationalities in Latin America. However, with a heavy welfare spending and constant strikes by labor unions, the country is on the brink of bankruptcy while its cost of living has increased to 92%. It adds that President Oscar Gestido announced the peso devaluation and reduced the exchange rate to expand the trade and restore confidence in the peso.
