Abstract

The article focuses on the success of Bill France who made Daytona, Florida the capital of stock-car racing. It states that France decided to concentrate on the promotion of stock-car races and together with some friends formed the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), which has sanctioned numerous races around the world. It notes that France also made enemies along the way by banning General Motors' fuel injection system and Chrysler's hemi-head engine from the races.
