Abstract

The article shows signs of revival from the spew of Mount Saint Helens in Washington since it exploded on May 18, 1980. Observation showed the return of fish to the South Fork of the Toutle River and the existence of trout in small lakes. Evidense revealed the slow process of recolonization of plants and animals outside the devastated zone and on the shoulders of the mountain. Biologists also believe that mountain lakes may come back even better. A Foreign Service environmental impact study suggests limited timber salvage in an interpretive area.
