Abstract

The article reports on the victory of race horse Sunny's Halo, trained by David Cross, in the 109th running of the Kentucky Derby held in May 1983. Cross confesses that he kept Sunny's Halo working despite the sore legs of the colt. In a deal with Sunny's Halo owner, David Foster, Cross gets 10 percent of his earnings on the racetrack and the sale of Sunny's Halo as a breeding stallion for 3,900 U.S. dollars. Sunny's Halo defeated derby horses Marfa, Total Departure, Balboa Native, Desert Wine and Delahoussaye.
