Abstract

The article reports on a railroad strike held by 200 West Berliners after the Russian blockade of the German city of Berlin. The West Berliners charged into the Reichsbahn-Direction, the headquarters of the Soviet-controlled railroad network coming from Berlin, and tore down pictures of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. The move prompted the Russians to move their railroad officials into the Soviet sector and did not respond appropriately to a gesture of cooperation extended by U.S. military officials to solve the problem.
