Abstract
- The article reports that scientist Bernard L. Strehler of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is studying the relationship of luciferin, an enzyme responsible for the firefly's light, and riboflavin or vitamin B12 to light. According to Strehler, luciferin is related to the generation of light as riboflavin is related to the absorption of light. He stresses that scientists may be able to understand the relation of life to light to increase the chance of preventing humans from damage caused by gamma rays.
