Abstract

The article reports on the plan of British Prime Minister George R. Strauss to set up Iron & Steel Corp. on October 2, 1950. For Winston Churchill, the government had no mandate to nationalize steel. His opposition to steel nationalization is based on the state of steel production which had trebled in 20 years, settled labor disputes with a major work stoppage from 1900-1950, and the opposition of many workers and trade unionist against nationalization. For the British government, it is just acting its role of implementing an act already passed.
