Abstract

The article reports on the work-rule changes proposed by the railroad industry to labor unions in the U.S. The proposals include wage slash, extension of the basic day mileage pay from 100 miles to 160, and elimination of featherbedding. Union leaders respond that the number of workers have been declined in spite of the increase in freight traffic. It mentions that the industry will change the work rules even at the cost of strike.
