Abstract

The article offers the author's insights on the study regarding the applicability of standard penetration test (SPT) in measuring the shear strength properties of soils. The author says that the writers of the study assumed that energy losses are negligible based from the belief that rod weight can balance the lost wave energy. He mentions a principle evaluated by a numerical analysis which shows the inability of rod potential energy to compensate the energy losses from wave propagation.
