Abstract

The article explains the importance of registering observational studies, which play a pivotal part of the medical evidence base in areas of public health. It notes that observational studies include public release of the study results to advance biomedical knowledge, informed consents and oversight by ethical review boards. However, it stresses that these studies, like clinical trials are subject to publication bias, including misrepresentation of phenotype definitions.
