Abstract
- The article looks at the trends in the money, stock and bond markets worldwide in the week of July 8, 1931. The appreciation of the U.S. dollar was a result of the transfer of investments to more liquid short-term paper. There was speculation that the Bank of England will impose a new reduction in its discount rate. The decline in stock prices is said to be an indication of doubts and concerns in Paris, France over negotiations for relief from international obligations. Latin American bonds recovered abruptly during the week.
