Abstract

The article focuses on the increasing interest in large mergers in the newsprint industry in 1931 following the creation of a committee of Canadian bankers and businessmen to assess the feasibility of such transactions. Current negotiations are said to be actively participated by Canadian Pacific Railways head E. W. Beatty. The lack of a price increase prospect is attributed to the importance of International Paper Co. (IP). Evaluation of properties is cited as a major difficulty facing merger negotiators.
