Abstract

The article looks at the effects on business of the strike at the Pacific Coast in 1934. Accordingly, the strike is estimated to cost 700,000 U.S. dollars a day in San Francisco, 10,000 U.S. dollars in lost wages of strikers and 70,000 U.S. dollars per month to the federal and state relief bill. It traces that the laborers' complaints date back to the Shipping Board of U.S. President Thomas Harding when there were no overtime pay.
