Abstract

The article presents an outlook on the economy of Cuba. It relates that the failure of Cuba to improve democracy and human rights will lead to the retention of the embargo imposed by the U.S. on the country since the early 1960s despite the decision of U.S. President Barack Obama to loosen its travel and remittance restrictions toward Cuba. It discusses the likelihood for U.S.-Cuba ties to suffer following the success of the Republican Party in the November 2010 midterm elections in line with the party's opposition to the lifting of the embargo.
