Abstract

The article reports on the fifth anniversary celebration for the long-playing (Lp) record that Columbia Records Inc. launched in 1948 at the company's annual sales convention in Chicago, Illinois. The Lp and the 45 revolutions per minute (rpm) record that RCA Victor Division of Radio Corp. of America launched are stimulating the record industry. Both companies estimated the 1952 retail sales at about 200 million U.S. dollars. It notes that the slow-speed records and the competition they brought helped narrow the race among manufacturers.
