Abstract

The article reports on the giant tractor-trailer combinations that transport Ford-built aircraft subassembly lines for Consolidatied B-24 four-motor bombers to the final assembly plant several states away in June 1942. A reduced number of subassemblies reportedly translates to lesser work by the final assembly plant. It is shown that the design of two trailers more than 60 feet long, with interiors more than 90 inches wide and more than 10 feet high would be sufficient to carry all parts for one plane.
