Abstract

The article focuses on the U.S. truck-railroad industry. It states that Chicago & North Western Railway Co. (CNW) introduced its trailer-on-flatcar (TOFC) service on August 13, 1953 in which truck trailers are loaded on a train. It says that Rail-Trailer Co.'s amortization on 21 million dollar budget for 1,500 flat cars was approved by the government. It notes that Rail-Trailer president Eugene F. Ryan is also hoping for a deal that will permit car rentals and operation of railroad terminals.
