Information on the topics discussed at a conference entitled "The Integration of the Consumer in the Selling Functions" in Zurich, Switzerland on self-service in Europe is presented. The conference highlighted the problems facing self-service in Europe, such as lack of capital, high cost of prepackaging, and fear of housewives' resistance. Businessman Gottlieb Duttweiler's Migros Cooperative introduced the first self-service business in Switzerland in 1948.
