Abstract

The article discusses the abstracts of several papers on economics published in the November 1965 issue of the "Journal of Industrial Economics." The first paper of the journal "Some Principles of Forecasting in Business," by Colin Robinson, is concerned with the way in which business forecasting should be approached rather than with particular forecasting techniques. The second paper "National Shipping Policies," by S.G. Sturmey, examines the aims, which may be pursued by shipping policies, and the methods adopted to secure those aims. The third article of the journal is "The Basis of Some Recent Advances in the Theory of Management of the Firm," by Armen A. Alchian. The fourth paper "Costs and Prices in the Northern Ireland Construction Industry 1954-64," by M.C. Fleming, describes the derivation of an index of output prices for the Northern Ireland construction industry and provides figures for changes in the costs of labor and materials. The fifth article of the journal "Linear Programming for Production Planning," by C. van de Panne, explains linear programming by means of an example of a company having to decide to which products it should allocate its limited production capacity.
