Abstract

The article focuses on the economic instability in New England and discusses the recommendations by the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) on improving the condition. According to a study by CEA's Committee on the New England Economy, the business recession of 1949 and early 1950 adversely affected the economy, with increase in unemployment. As stated, the two major industries in the area that are worst affected are the shoe and textile industries, which need modernization and diversification.
