Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore the effect of varied static visual instructions on students' online learning. One experimental study was conducted to fulfill the purpose. Sixty undergraduate students majoring in educational-related areas from an American public university participated in the study. The results of the study show that the effect of two static visual instructions (concept map and static image) in facilitating different types of knowledge acquisition in an online environment is the same. During lower-order thinking process, only static visual instruction (static image) is superior to text-based instruction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
