Abstract

The article discusses the historiography of German-Jewish history in the 19th and 20th centuries. It describes the historicist school of studying German Jews, exploring how diaspora Jews in Germany were considered a smaller part of the general Jewish population throughout the world. It then discusses developments in historiography in the early 20th century which viewed German Jews as a minority group unrelated to other minorities. The historiographical methods for understanding Jews during the rise of the Nationalist Socialist party and Nazi ideology are discussed, along with the scientific arguments used to justify anti-Jewish prejudice. The historiography of social historians Eugen Täubler, Selma Stern, and Bruno Blau are also discussed.
