Abstract
- The article discusses results of a study that examines mitochondrial DNA from 1929 horses to determine the origin of Thoroughbred racehorses. The study material and methods are discussed, including polymerase chain reactions and comparison of data with 1550 horse D-loop sequences available from GenBank. The study showed that Thorougbred foundation mares have a cosmopolitan European heritage with influence from British and Irish Native mares.
