Abstract: An encyclopedia entry for French Empress Josephine, wife of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, is presented. She was born Marie Joseph Rose Tascher de la Pagerie on the island of Martinique in 1763. She had two children from her marriage with Viscount de Beauharnais and married Bonaparte in 1796. The emperor divorced her due to her inability to present him with an heir in 1809 and she died in 1814.
