Abstract

The article comments on issues and events related to U.S. government and politics and international relations. It questions the move of Citibank to extend loans to Mexico despite the country's deteriorating finances. It illustrates the hypocrisy of the U.S. in the area of international trade as evidence by its import quota on meat products while criticizing Japan for imposing similar quota on U.S. meat exports. Democratic New York City Mayor Edward Koch is urging fellow Democrats to return to mainstream politics. The planned visit of U.S. President Ronald Reagan in the Philippines should be based on the ability of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos to govern the country without the use of force.
