Abstract
- The article discusses the provisions of the Data Accountability and Trust Act of 2009 (DATA) that was already approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and is awaiting authorization by the U.S. Senate to be signed into law. The bill defines personal information as a person's name, address, phone number and other information, including Social Security and passport numbers and is aimed to combat identity theft. The proposed law will be regulated by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
