Abstract

The article focuses on a discussion on Student Life Skills (SLS) courses by Denise Giarusso of the Florida State College at Jacksonville and Mickie Hayes of Hillsborough Community College during the annual conference of the Florida Association on Higher Education and Disability. The objective of SLS courses is to equip disabled students with self-advocacy skills and academic coping strategies that they will need to succeed. They stress the need for SLS instructors to recognize the types of accommodations approved for various types of disabilities.
