Abstract

Some economic effects of immigration: a general equilibrium analysis. The effects of immigration on per capita real income and on the distribution of the national product in the receiving country are determined. Previous analyses have assumed that immigrants and members of the indigenous population have similar characteristics save in respect of ownership of capital. Some account is taken of the differences in the occupational compositions, the intersectoral distributions and the consumption preferences of the immigrant and native work forces and some rather surprising results derived. The theory of duality and the technique of comparative statics are employed. Some numerical examples relating to immigration into Canada in 1970 are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
