Abstract
- The article discusses the poem "Epigram 46" by the Greek poet Callimachus. The author attempts to show how Callimachus' use of vocabulary and themes brings to mind the use of a medical persona in Greek philosopher Plato's dialogues. The author suggests that Callimachus referred to medical discoveries and techniques in his poetry such as "Hymn to Artemis" and "Hymn to Delos. " "Epigram 46" is also suggested to be a response to the eleventh "Idyll" of Greek poet Theocritus.
