Abstract

The article discusses the poem "Epigram 46" by the Greek poet Callimachus. The author attempts to show how Callimachus' use of vocabulary and themes brings to mind the use of a medical persona in Greek philosopher Plato's dialogues. The author suggests that Callimachus referred to medical discoveries and techniques in his poetry such as "Hymn to Artemis" and "Hymn to Delos. " "Epigram 46" is also suggested to be a response to the eleventh "Idyll" of Greek poet Theocritus.
