Abstract

The article presents a case study of a 51-year-old patient with no history of splenectomy who was brought to the hospital with disseminated intravascular coagulation and died of Streptococcus (S.) pneumoniae caused by overwhelming post-splenectomy infection (OPSI). It states that the patient died following 30 minutes of continuous cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Forensic investigations suggested that his lungs were filled with pleural effusions on each side.
