Abstract
- How does Latin America fit into this picture? It is obvious that it lags behind in many fields of knowledge that are crucial for international competition. For it to take an active part and with some measure of autonomy in the new world economic setup, it ought to be more adequately equipped in terms of science, technology and commerce. Co-operation is needed more than ever before. This article touches on some of the needs and opportunities for co-operation in higher education between Europe and Latin America, with emphasis on the bigger Latin American countries for two reasons: first, because supply and demand for technological skills in those countries are greater and, second, for the pragmatic reason that we have more data about them.
