Abstract

The article describes the use of a solar-powered pontoon developed by the British Environment Agency (EA) and YSI Hydrodata to monitor water quality at the Burry Inlet in Wales. The pontoon is able to monitor quality continuously at the inlet despite a tidal range of eight meters and high currents. Among the pontoon's features are a retractable tubing, a global positioning system and global system for mobile communications buoy tracker and a water-tight telemetry box.
