Abstract
- A biography of Professor Johann R. E. Lutjeharms is presented. He was born and educated in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He was a member of the Oceanography Department at the University of Cape Town (UCT) for 20 years. He became the chairman of Ocean Climatology at UCT in 1990 and retired in December 2009. His research have focused on understanding and quantifying the large-scale circulation patterns of the ocean around South Africa.
