Abstract
- The article provides an overview of the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979. The Soviet authorities are giving a cash reward of $40,000 to any person who would kill Syed Is'haq Gailani, a commander of about 100,000 freedom fighters in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan. After the invasion, Afghan ethnic groups started a guerilla war that has denied the Soviets control most of the countryside.
