Abstract

The separation of the Conciliation Service from the U.S. Department of Labor, pursuant to the provisions of the Labor-Management Relations Act of 1947, after 34 years in that Department, marked a turning point in the administration of the labormanagement relations policy. This paper is designed as a partial statement of the record of achievement of the Service while in the Department of Labor. It happens that the two years the writer spent as Director of the Service coincide with two landmark dates—V-J Day and the effective date of the Labor-Management Relations Act.
