Abstract

The article describes two species of plant-breeding frogs, namely, Guibemantis annulatus and Guibemantis wattersoni, found in southeastern Madagascar. G. annulatus has a great similarity with G. punctatus while G. wattersoni is very similar to G. bicalcaratus. The distinguishing characteristics of the species are detailed particularly their coloration, body size, advertisement calls and genetic differences. Both species thrive only in phytotelms which serve as their breeding place. A description for G. punctatus is provided based on new topotypical material. Also discussed is the identity of G. bicalcaratus and other species.
