Abstract

The article focuses on the Italian reception of Henrik Ibsen's works in 1883-1891. It states that he is dependent on intermediaries and commercial agents to spread his works abroad. Critic Angelo De Gubernatis and agents and translators Alfredo Mazza, Pietro Galletti and Luigi Capuana made the early attempts to introduce Ibsen in Italy. It also discuss the contribution of theatrical agents Enrico and Icilio Polese on the marketing and canonization of Ibsen's work.
