Abstract

The article offers poetry criticism of several poems by Anne Finch, including "The Critick and the Writer of Fables," "A Letter to Dafnis," and "The Appology". It explores the roles of critics and criticism in her writings. According to the author, Finch satirized critical and polemical paratexts and instead encouraged a mode of reading and criticism which valued artistic merit, amusement and aesthetic pleasure over critical disputes. Attitudes towards women authors are also discussed.
