Abstract

The article presents an editorial discussing marketing in Ohio in the early 1800s. The author believes most entrepreneurs were unable to specialize in one area of economic activities (manufacturing, wholesaling, or retailing) and were therefore forced to integrate two of these when selling their goods. The Worthington Manufacturing Company, based in Steubenville, Ohio and Columbus, Ohio is noted for its complexity at the time.
