Abstract
- The article discusses an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division into the practices of the fertilizer industry and its trade associations. In 1939, investigators from the Antitrust Division and the U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation entered the offices of the National Fertilizer Association in Washington D.C., as well as many other corporations part of the association. They were interested mainly in the potash, nitrogen, and the mixed fertilizer sectors of the industry. The author gives further information on some of the charges, including conspiracy to restrain trade through price fixing and international cartels. The outcome of the investigation is also discussed.
