Abstract
- The article addresses federal legislation which serves to dissuade price discrimination. It is the third in a series of article on price discrimination. The first two covered the economic and marketing factors related to price discrimination. A description of early common laws which governed a merchant's obligation to serve the public interest at reasonable compensation is provided. Modern common law is different in that it requires companies to sell without price discrimination to the same class of buyer. The goal of this type of legislation is to provide equality of opportunity and prevent unfair advantages for some businesses.
