Abstract
- The article addresses changes in U.S. wholesaling from the years 1929 through 1939 as found in four censuses taken during that time. The article illustrates and analyses the number of establishments and their sales volume, sales with volume, employment and pay roll, operating expenses, geographic changes, changes in operation, and kinds of business. A series of conclusions are drawn based on the data, including that there has been a significant increase in the number of wholesale establishments since 1929, the number of retail stores in the U.S. exceeds the number of persons employed in wholesaling, and between 1935 and 1939, payroll increased more than sales.
