Abstract
- The article discusses the course which the depression has followed in Australia, the steps taken to mitigate its effects and ameliorate its consequences, and the country's outlook for the future. Two important features of the Australian economy are that it has always been dependent on a large export of raw materials, and its persistence in overseas borrowing. The author points out that the depression hit Australia on both levels, lowering the prices of its two main exports and causing countries to cease lending to it. Information is included on how the economy became balanced and problems associated with the balance.
