Abstract

The article examines Great Britain's regulation of company accounts and finance. The author relates the response of over 60 individuals within the financial, legal, and academic communities about their thoughts on specific British legal requirements for financial information. The author asks how these requirements were developed and what are the essential safeguards of the integrity of British securities offered to the public. The article relates the thoughts of respondents to the Act of 1929 which consolidated previous company acts. The article reports a general reluctance on the part of the respondents for further government regulation. Responses to the author's query about essential protection of investors and necessary information is related.
