Abstract

The article discusses a report from the Public Utilities Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission relating to the depreciation practice of several public utilities companies from 1930-1939. Due to the interest of investors, management, and consumer groups in depreciation practice, the author reviews data from the report in order to offer a usable summary of the information. Different aspects of depreciation are reviewed including depreciation for income tax purposes and the ratio of depreciation of revenues. Several charts and diagrams showing data from the study are included in the text.
