Abstract

The article focuses on the introduction of the armored catfish, Pterygoplichthys ambrosettii in a large effluent of the Upper Parana River basin in Brazil. As stated, there are several routes of introduction of freshwater fishes in Brazil, including deliberately releasing non-native species, the transposition of hydrographic basins, and accidental escapes from fish culture. It states that one of the likely means through which this species reached the region is the process of manual rescue.
