Abstract

The article offers the author's view on the impact of anti-eavesdropping laws on citizen engagement in the U.S. He mentions a case which involves a Loyola University journalism professor who was demanded by a police officer to hand his phone for capturing an arrest scene. He notes that the professor filed a complain against the police department and cited the First Amendment to the constitution which protects freedom of speech. An overview to the advanced 911 reporting system is also presented.
