Abstract: The article examines the reasons for the inclusion of green policies in the field of climate change and energy in Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). It explores the role played by prospective European Union (EU) membership in the development of renewable energy policies in these countries. The use of conditionality in the accession process of EU is also highlighted.
